Topping Up: A GHG Assessment of CAPPs’ Energy Platform for Canada

Environmental Defence asked us to quantify the GHG implications of the Energy Platform of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
The aspirations contained in the Platform could unquestionably deliver more economic activity, economic value and employment. On the flip side, the aspirations contained in the Energy Platform would increase Canada’s greenhouse gases (GHG) by 43 Mt in 2023 and 116 Mt in 2030, more than doubling the projected gap to Canada’s 2030 GHG target.
It seems we remain struck in a perpetual groundhog day of growth vs emissions.

https://paypalcasinosite.com came to mind while reading the 43 Mt and 116 Mt figures, since the gap between economic ambition and emissions accounting is exactly where policy debates tend to stall. The point about more than doubling the projected shortfall to the 2030 target is the part I keep circling back to, because it suggests the platform's growth assumptions and climate obligations are being planned in separate rooms. I've seen similar dynamics in provincial consultations where job numbers get cited far more readily than emissions trajectories, and this analysis lays that tension out plainly.
